COVID-19 Mitigation

Precautions and Guidelines

Last Updated 8/22/2022

The Wonderland community has prioritized mitigation strategies, with a focus on schooling and supervising adults, drawing on Montessori's core principles. This allows us to minimize risk for pupils while preserving an atmosphere of normality, in adherence to CDC standards as well as those set by Texas and Arizona, in addition to input from experts and the latest findings. To this effect, our team of educators have designed and reviewed protocols with the aforementioned guidelines in mind.

The Prepared Environment

  • In the program area, HVAC systems are set to maximize fresh air flow.
  • We use EPA-approved disinfectants throughout the day and at the end.
  • Children and employees should wash their hands before eating, before water play, after toileting or changing diapers, and after outdoor activities. (Minimum Standards of Child Care Licensing, not COVID19 specific). When children use a tissue or clean mucus from their faces, they should wash their hands.
  • Programs without dishwashers in the classroom use disposable flatware and plates for meals.
  • Whenever a child mouths materials or toys, they are removed for sanitization. Soft items will be machine washed. Sleeping equipment and toilets are sanitized between use. Tabletops, furniture, door handles, and other equipment are regularly cleaned throughout the day. (Minimum Standards for Childcare Licensing, not COVID19 specific).

Mitigation and Response

  • We especially encourage those who are unvaccinated to wear masks. Masks are recommended, but not required, for all persons 2 and over.
  • You or your child(ren) should notify us as soon as possible if they experience COVID-19 or similar symptoms. When symptoms of illness appear at school, staff or students should stay home or will be sent home. Students must be fever-free for 24 hours before returning to school.
  • If a child or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, we will follow any and all directives provided by the County Health Department. We will notify any close contacts, if that person has been present at school. If a person tests positive, they are required to isolate for five days or until they are no longer experiencing symptoms. Students should remain masked for ten days.
  • It is currently recommended that unvaccinated staff and children quarantine for 5 days after exposure to COVID-19. Vaccinated staff and children are advised to monitor their symptoms.
