Montessori Approach

Deciding the best fit for your child can be difficult. What your child needs and what matters most are key steps in choosing a school where they could grasp a lifelong learning, a successful career, and prestigious education. We are passionately dedicated to being true to the integrity of Dr. Maria Montessori’s methodology, which encompasses three components:

  • The Prepared Environment
  • The Material
  • The Prepared Adult

Our beautiful, peaceful and normalized Prepared Environments, with real-life activities, allows the child freedom of movement where they learn from all of their surroundings.

“The hands are the instruments of the man’s intelligence,” was articulated by Dr. Montessori. Therefore, our students are respected and given the ability to choose their own work. Montessori stands for a system of learning that helps develop natural interests and hence drive a self-motivated education. Wonderland Montessori Academy follows the above approach proposed by Dr. Maria Montessori.

The Montessori philosophy realizes that each child is unique and learns in different ways, hence we realize and respect that learning must be child-driven. It also focuses on the holistic and eclectic development and learning of a child, coupled with the development of their social, physical, emotional and cognitive abilities.

Through concentration and repetition of using the tactile Montessori materials, children learn to apply all their senses, internalize concepts, and master them. Our materials allow activity, at the same time they allow the child to experience self-correction, through observations by the teachers and their ability to help children self-discover by asking simple questions like “what would you do differently”, thereby helping them also build analytical skills.

An education system must enable children with special educational needs to achieve their potential. Our certified Montessori teachers are called “Directresses,” as they guide the children with both love and knowledge. They are dedicated and committed to providing a safe and child-driven environment.

Wonderland Montessori Academy implements effective educational curricula that help the children discover opportunities to develop and enhance their potential as they enter into an engaged world of responsible & competent citizens with an understanding and appreciation for lifelong learning.

The Montessori Method

It has been proven by several studies that the Montessori Method helps children learn more effectively and efficiently in comparison to other conventional approaches. This method of education improves children’s enjoyment of learning and increases their potential. It integrates seamlessly with child’s natural development and incorporates all the senses to facilitate a deep understanding and knowledge of experiential learning. Exploring the essence and individuality of each child, the method guides them with reinforcing activities. The major purpose of this education system is to offer a learning environment to children in which they can develop their skills, potential, and habits for lifelong happiness and well-being.

Practical Life

Practical Life activities have a major purpose of enhancing & developing concentration, independence, & indirectly preparing children for writing and reading. It includes simple, repetitive and day to day activities such as cleaning, food preparation, polishing and watering plants. The practice helps children to gain control in the coordination of their movement, help them to gain independence, respect their environment & adapt to their society. Our programs and practices allow children to be fully functional members of their own society.

The purpose of sensorial activities is to develop the ability to observe, understand and compare with precision. This aids in the development of the intellectual senses of the child.  The program comes from the word senses. Children are able to concentrate on the refinement of all his senses, from visual to stereognostic.

The concept and the principles are well designed to enhance and develop vocabulary & explore both spoken, and written language. Because the learning is not done through subjects in a traditional environment, the child learns at his own rhythm. This allows the child to concentrate on each important step in language so that each progressive step is done easily and without any thought or struggle on the part of the child.

The role of our teachers is to bring order to classify what the child has learned, build the child’s confidence and to provide the child with meaningful activities to explore and learn from.

Perhaps some of the most beautiful and inviting material in a Montessori classroom are the math materials.

Maria Montessori believed that children absorbed mathematical concepts naturally. By means of practical life and sensorial activities, children were already experiencing the concepts of order, sequence, measurement, calculation and exactness.

The absorbent mind of early childhood naturally transcends into a reasoning mind which enjoys natural truths and the laws of nature. These then allow the child to create mental order. The natural order of reflection of a child’s readiness for a mathematical mind is represented thus on the right (Figure 1 Readiness for a mathematical mind).

This has been introduced to concrete sensorial materials. It has its explorations with sensorial materials that encourage each child to conceive basic mathematical concepts whether it’s learning number, counting, and number sequence. We took this idea and believe that the mathematical mind tends to estimate, needs to quantify, to see identity, difference, to make order & sequence and to control error.

Cultural Studies

Cultural studies lead children to experience artwork and items from their cultural background. The concept encourages children to enhance their capacity to develop and create fine motor skills. The curriculum provides children with an opportunity to explore the larger world around them. As part of a rich exploration of the different cultures of the world, our practices help students to learn more about the people, terrain & animals of each continent.

The Montessori Method brings a crucial framework so that each child could make the most of their precious early years. The environment effectively enables them to develop and enhance their potentials. It helps them in develop writing skills, reading books, basic numeracy, etc. The Montessori Method is all about helping children to grow into a capable and confident young person, ready to explore the enthralling world around them.
